winter tales

Khuong Nguyen “Winter Tales” campaign for the 2011 Louboutin line. I don't like it that much because it looks kinda cheap, its a campaign i never tought Louboutin would do something like this. This campaign lets me think more of Alice in Wonderland then of the louboutin shoes. What do you think?

dreaming about light and white.

supercouple in one book.

The world's best model and photographer are working together on a new photography-book! Testino and Kate Moss have shot in the past many pictures together and those photo's are always beautifull!

The pictures of Mario Testino have something magical. The photographed looks always at his or her very best. It is no wonder that Testino shoots are known, to be one big party!

The Peruvian photographer thinks that Kate Moss, is the most beautiful woman, after Princess Diana, in the whole world.
The collectors item has a low print run of 1500 pieces, so it is very exclusive. For this must-have signed count unfortunately therefore 350 euros down. Too bad for me, that will be only looking in de bookstore, instead of buying it.

Model of the week.

Damaris Lewis.
Residence: Brooklyn, NY, US
Hometown: Coney Island, NY, US
Height: 5'9.5"
Eye Color: Brown
Date of Birth: October 10, 1990
Agency: Elite
Quote: "At birth, you are given a name that serves as your identification. It is up to you to create the name that will define you."

Born and bred in Brooklyn, New York, discovered her love for the industry at the young age of 15, and made a quick ascent once she arrived. Not only has she been featured on the pages of Vogue Paris and V Magazine, but by 2009, she achieved the coveted dream of many models and posed for the highly anticipated Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition.
Campaignwise Damaris has served as the face of Bennetton, Clarins, and Yves Saint Laurent makeup, while she's walked on the runways for Barbara Tfank and Elie Tahari and even opened and closed the Spring 2009 Baby Phat show, which was broadcast on a jumbotron in New York City.
But modeling isn't Damaris' only passion. Before she found her calling in the modeling industry, Damaris studied as a dancer, and even attended the prestigious school put on the map by Fame: Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.

Brooklynite Damaris Lewis has got Fame written all over her.

Love her vintage, tribal stuff and looks.

Garance Doré for ELLE UK.

I've been fan of her for a while, and when i saw this on her blog i just needed to put this on my blog. Elle UK, asked Garance to do not only a spread for them, but also to work on a portrait of Demi Moore for a collector edition of their magazine. "I’m not even going to begin to tell you how I felt the day the Elle Uk team asked me."

I'm certainly going to buy the ELLE UK!

Focus of the month.

Focus on one item, the history of it, the meaning, looks, famous people wearing it, why people wear it, and much more!
This month, the shoe.

Everyone wears it, shoes. In every size, in any form, whether you choose for high heels or crocs. It's a way of life, i can't imagen without. Maybe i am making a big deal of it, but what would you do if there are no shoes left? If you need to walk on bare feet, imagen the world without shoes. That would be strange wouldn't?

Well if we wan't to know more about the shoe, lets go back in time. To the history.
The earliest known shoes date from about 8000 to 7000 BCE and were foun in Oregon, USA in 1938.
The earliest designs were simple affairs, often mere "foot bags" of leather to protect the feet from rocks, debris, and cold.
By the Middle Ages, turn-shoes had been developed with toggled flaps or drawstrings to tighten the leather around the foot for a better fit. As Europe gained in wealth and power, fancy shoes became status symbols. Toes became long and pointed, often to ridiculous proportions. Artisans created unique footwear for rich patrons, and new styles developed. Eventually the modern shoe, with a sewn-on sole, was devised. Since the 17th century, most leather shoes have used a sewn-on sole.
Until around 1800, shoes were made without differentiation for the left or right foot. We now call such shoes, "straights".
Since the mid-20th Century, the other fabrics came like: rubber, plastics, synthetic cloth, and industrial adhesives wich helped to allowed manufacturers to create shoes that stray considerably from traditional crafting techniques.

Types of womenshoes.

There is a large variety of shoes available for women. Some categories are:
High-heeled footwear may be shoes with heels 2 inches (5 cm) or higher. They are often seen as having more sex appeal than low heels.
Kitten heels are low high heels from about 1.5 to 2 inches high, set in from the back of the shoe.
Wedge Sandals are sandals but have the ankles higher as if wearing a high heels shoe.
Slingbacks are shoes which are secured by a strap behind the heel, rather than over the top of the foot.

Some shoedesingers.
Christian Louboutin (born 1964).
He is a footwear designer who launched his line of high-end women's shoes in France in 1991. Since 1992, his designs have incorporated the shiny, red-lacquered soles that have become his signature. His designs are very popular because he designs extraordinary shoes, but also shoes that are really classic.

Jimmy Choo
Choo was born in Penang, Malaysia into a family of shoemakers. He made his first shoe when he was 11 years old. He is perhaps the most notable of students of Cordwainers Technical College in London Borough of Hackney, London from which he graduated in 1983. He worked part-time at restaurants and as a cleaner at a shoe factory to help fund his college education.

Manolo Blahnik (born 1942).

Born to a Czech father and a Spanish mother and born and raised in the Canary Islands (Spain), Blahnik graduated from the University of Geneva in 1965 and studied art in Paris. He moved to London in 1968 to work at fashion boutique "Zapata" and write for Vogue Italia. After showing his portfolio of fashions and set designs to Diana Vreeland, she told him that he should design only footwear. In 1972, Ossie Clark invited him to create shoes for his runway show.
Manolo Blahnik's flagship store remains to date in Old Church Street, Chelsea London.
Blahnik was awarded the honorary title of Commander of the British Empire in 2007 for his service to the British fashion industry.

FASHION BABEL.

Do you speak fashion?

Anglicaans
Fashion goes far, don't be suprised that you need to speak English.

Statement
Just like the statement jewellery: something what stands out, it's what the whole outfit is about, the key piece.

Trophy
Just like a trophy bag: the piece of your garderobe, the most expensive of all, the one with the biggest waiting lists. Should be especially apparent. Example: Louis Vuitton, Chanel or the Coco/Rocco bag of Alexander Wang.

Heirloom
Just like a heirloom coat: an expensive item that a heirloom is, a heirloom looks, or a heirloom to be. (for the Dutch ones who doesn't understand me: een heirloom is een erfstuk.)
Think of Hermès or Chanel bags. In clothing the pieces are so noticable that you only can wear them once.

Investment piece
Thats how sounds a expensive purchase. It's a way of art, you can wear it years and it got heirloom potential.

Words you can't say anymore.
Not oversized but: slouchy
Not practical but: utilitarian
Not tight but: body-con
Not rockchick but: French Vogue
Not 'the new black', but: black 3.0

Model of the week.

Liu Wen
With fashion godfathers in Karl Lagerfeld and Jean Paul Gaultier, Liu Wen is a very lucky girl.
Residence: Hometown: Yongzhou, Hunan, China
Height: 5'10.5"
Eye Color: Brown
Date of Birth: January 27, 1988
Agency: Marilyn Agency

"Many people asked me how many shows I did this season; I didn’t even remember the number. Later checking out by Internet I found out: 74?! 74 shows during 30 days? How was I able to accomplish all that?"

Liu Wen is a very lucky girl. Not only did Karl Lagerfeld fall in love with her look, but Jean Paul Gaultier was taken aback by the beauty as well.

Born on January 27, 1988 in Yongzhou, a Chinese town in the Hunan province, Liu found her modeling path after competing in the New Silk Road World Model Contest during the summer of 2005.

With the Kaiser and JPG in her corner, Liu's career was officially launched. She's has appeared on the covers of magazines like Chinese Marie Claire, Chinese Vogue Beauty, Chinese Elle, and in the pages of magazines like Teen Vogue, Flair, British Harper's Bazaar, and i-D.
Her consistent runway work speaks for itself, as she's walked down the runways of each fashion capital, having worked with designers like Jason Wu, BCBG Max Azria, Rag & Bone, Alexander Wang, Erin Fetherston, Carolina Herrera, Marc Jacobs, Derek Lam, and Narciso Rodriguez. Plus she's been featured in ad campaigns for DKNY, Bennetton, Diane von Furstenberg, and Calvin Klein's One.
In between all of her impressive work, she also has a major accomplishment to add to her résumé: She is the first Asian model to walk in the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
